Training Begins!

Happy Sunny Monday!

My training will officially begin tomorrow. My good friend, Karen, is going to walk with me while our girls are at cheer practice. Yipee!

I have been having some problems with my right foot since last summer. I developed Planter Fascia. Let's just say that when I walk (including last years walk) it feels like I have a sharp instrument going right through my heel. OUCH!!! See, it seems that I live in a world of denial. If I leave it alone, it will go away right? WRONG! It's gotten so bad that it hurts constantly. So, I went to the doctor last week and was sent to get custom inserts for my shoes and get new shoes that were "stabilizing". Then, he gives me this "boot" thing that I have to wear when I sleep. Yeah, right. That lasted two nights.

So, I am trying to follow doctors orders. It does feel a little better now that the inserts have been adjusted twice. We'll see how it feels tomorrow after the 5 miles!

Cheers!

6% Baby!!!

I want to send a special shout out to my cousins Scott and Cjaisey, who are soon to be newlyweds. Thank you for your donation!

Also, to "Mr. Anonymous" (Dad) thank you for your support again this year! I couldn't do this without your help.

So lets see, this week has been OK with regards to training. I've been on schedule with 3 miles every other day. I walk everyday with my "most dedicated" training partner, Tucker. He pushes me out the door, even if I don't want to go!

Cheers!

Day One 2009

As we left the Cow Palace, we walked through the hills of Daly City and San Francisco and passed by the San Francisco Zoo on the way to the Great Highway, where we walked along the coast through Ocean Beach. Then we strolled along the breathtaking Lands End Trail, enjoying a beautiful sunny day.

As we arrived at Crissy Field, with the Golden Gate Bridge providing a gorgeous backdrop, a troop of fabulous local boy scouts helped us set up tents to protect us from the wind. A full moon lit the sky as we settled in for the night.

The 3 Day 2009

OK, so after reading every one's suggestions on what and what not to bring, checking the weather a million times and cramming everything needed into Space Bags (to keep everything dry) I was finally packed. All of my belongings, including my sleeping bag and pillows, had to fit into my ONE duffel bag. Thank goodness for Space Bags.

It was the morning of the event at 3:30 am. I'm up and getting ready to leave. I have to admit, I had butterflies in my stomach. I had never done anything like this before. Fund raising over $2500, training and heading off to an event where I didn't know a soul to spend 3 days walking. What the heck was I thinking??? Anyway, Kent was willing to drive me into Daly City where the walk began. We had to leave the house at 4:45 am to arrive by 6:00 am. So off went.

As we were driving up to the Cow Palace I started to get excited. There was pink everywhere!!! Women and men directing traffic with bra's over their clothes. I was looking for the truck that I was supposed to leave my (remember, one) bag. I know, I like to brag about my "one-time" packing success. Anyway, once we found the truck, I jumped out and gave Kent a kiss and headed up the ramp into the event.

I did feel pretty overwhelmed. Everywhere I looked were seasoned walkers, survivors, husbands, dads, daughters, mothers, sisters, friends and first timers like me. Everyone was smiling and very friendly. I immediately felt comfortable and loved. So, once I kinda figured out where I was supposed to go, I called Andie, a lady that I met online who was walking for the first time as well. We signed up to be "Tentmates." I had never seen her before, so I didn't know who to look for. But, that didn't stop me from asking a few people if they were "Andie" and at last, I found her. She was walking with her friends who hugged me immediately.

Just about then, it was time for Opening Ceremonies. I quickly headed to the wall where you can write down some words of inspiration or the reason you are doing the walk.

The ceremony was amazing! Once the gates are open, the first people walking with the flags led us on our 3-Day journey. That wasn't even the coolest part! Following the flags were the San Jose Police Officers who volunteered to ride bikes and escort us the entire 60 miles. Amazing!

I didn't realize that as I began to walk the steps that I was taking were going to change me, all the way down to my soul.

Follow me through Daly City as I continue to share my experiences with you!

It's just the beginning!

Welcome to my blog for Boobies! Yes, that's right! BOOBIES! I am beginning the journey of fund raising, training and new this year, BLOGGING! This is the 2nd year that I have done the 3 Day Walk. I will walk 60 miles over 3 days this October in San Francisco.

Last year was an amazing experience. I went alone and came home with new friends. We stayed in pink tents at Chrissy Fields. The view of the Golden Gate Bridge was breath taking.

I felt like I was living in a pink bubble for three days where everyone was loving, caring, helpful and amazing!

Stay tuned, more of my adventure to come!
